Waves in Motion

Life has a very interesting way of bringing us back to who we are.  For someone like me, nature, waves, the ocean and ocean breeze provide a calm like no other, an almost meditative experience. I have always loved to visit the sea side and every time I have I could not get enough.  The vastness of the ocean, its immense power and strength remind me and bring me back to the Divine.  "Waves in Motion" is inspired by visit to the sea and immersing myself in its raw beauty:

Venturing into a new media...

Sometimes working with a new medium brings new twists and turns in our creative journey! allowing us to step outside our comfort zone and the media in art we are used to and makes practising art that much more interesting and adventurous! It was three months ago I began paint pouring with acrylics and it has turned out to be fun, memorable & exciting! Bringing about a new found inspiration to work in different medium, unexpected happy accidents and unusual discoveries about the media itself. Every medium in art including oil, water colour and acrylic has its own beauty and versatility it is only a matter of diving into it, discovering its secrets and the rest follows. Here is what turned out with my venturing into a different method & media:....

Bringing nature indoor !

If we cannot go outside much to soak in the beauty of nature and are spending a lot of time indoors these days , why not bring a piece of this luxury and treasure home.....as a reminder of the despite the troubles we face there is still beauty in the world. This prompted the mural I have done in my home recently completed... And I have called it "Bringing a piece of Joy Home"  ...... Hopefully this provides a glimmer of hope to everyone who sees it that this time shall pass too like every difficult time and instead this time is allowing us to look forward to the calm after the storm and make the very most of every moment.

Reordering our Life...

We have been forced to reorder our priorities, to appreciate life with simplicity and humility, which is not such a bad thing," Setting aside space to reflect and look within can be a beautiful gift to yourself during chaotic times. Whether your retreat space is a windowsill or an entire room, filling it with objects that are sacred to you: cherished photographs, crystals, fresh flowers, candles, can instantly elevate our mood and refresh our senses.  I have decorated  a corner of my house with photographs of great memories with the ones I love , placed indoor plants in strategic areas and i have already started feeling it has brought a breath of fresh air to the space. Now onto scented candles, essential oils, fresh fruit and maybe a treasured piece of decor to finish off! Sometimes a small change can make a lasting difference!

Giving Gratitude & Recognizing Time

Despite the current anxiety and fear around stirred by the Covid-19 crisis, this time there is need to drown out that fear with hope & gratitude- the gratitude that we still exist and have opportunities in our life. Although we do not know how long this pandemic will last for, we must make the time to appreciate what we do have. Life can make us forget that time is not an inexhaustible commodity.  During this crisis, I have had the opportunity to still work, to paint at home, to keep active via my home weekly exercise routine, cooking and baking to release stress, meditating (which is extremely relaxing for me ) , spending time with my husband at home watching comedy movies together and laughing together, keeping close with relatives via zoom and Skype video calls, journaling and caring for my garden. Seeing my garden still doing well is giving me constant hope of the future. My vincas, geranium, petunia, marigold ,daisies, hibiscus are doing great happy to say ! And watching th

In the wake of the eye.....

In a wake of the eye..... New York 'the city that never sleeps' is filled with a deafening silence. In Paris the 'city of romance ' even a pin drop could be heard. London & Rome 'the eternal city' is quiet. And Nairobi is still.... Our cities have turned to ghost towns Churches, mosques,  parks, famous  monuments sites, restaurants and stadiums are silent. Mecca is empty!. Disney is not showing its Majic. The busiest places are now hospitals and cemeteries. Famous football leagues, global fashion shows, festivals all put on stand still. Businesses are going online , major meetings cancelled and the line the developed and developing is blurred. Celebrities have stopped celebrations. Our titles and status do not matter right now but what matters is humanity and staying alive. Regardless of some of our multiple nationality cards and citizenship we cannot go outside and our savings are being used  to purchase the bare necessities. Our outdoor cloth

Everyday is Earth Day !

As we celebrate 50 years of Earth Day..... I ponder over what kind of world we shall leave behind.... In the face of our current uncertain & unprecedented times, what can we do to leave a better impression of our footprint for our future generations ? Health is of utmost priority more than ever right now.....I reflect on my health , the health of those around me and pray for those who are under pain or any grief due to this Covid Pandemic. I also urge everyone to stay indoor as it's only through this that those who are at the front line in the fight can be able to do their job. This Earth Day is not just another day we should remember Earth...but a day to try to make every next day Earth Day.... A day we care, think, respect and be kind to ourselves and the world around us in every way we can To better Earth days to come! ..... To the fight to kick out Covid from our lives.... #stayathome #staysafe   #remembermotherearth

Turning the Pandemic into a Candoemic .....

Let’s turn this PANdemic into a CANDOemic Instead of focusing on all the things we CAN’T do right now (travel, attending live physical conferences and going to the gym/ favourite restaurant) focus on what we CAN   do. ✔️ Keep running our online businesses  ✔️ make a difference in people’s lives in whatever way we can. (Today I baked a vanilla cake for my husband because he asked me to bake one as vanilla cakes remind him of His Late Mother and brings back great memories for him. ) ✔️ Focus on solutions instead of barriers, turn our setbacks into opportunities ✔️  stay active and fit. #noexcuses ( I have began indoor work out sessions with Meredith  from Svelte Training and following her workouts is inspiring!) ✔️ Create a routine & Keep working on daily goals even while working from home ✔️ Give back to our community wherever we can  And on that note,  I take a moment to Thank You ... ALL HEROES ON THE FRONT LINE - THANK YOU Thank you to our doctors, nurses

When a Virus Hits Unexpected ......

..and not the computer virus that takes over your computer and hacks your details... But a virus that can kill lives !...the world is shaken by Corona Virus better known as Covid- 19. ..... In the midst of this alarming news, the world is confronted with slowing stock markets, global lock downs, countries shutting their borders, increase in sales in hand sanitizers, masks and gloves, governments requesting all to stay indoor,  practise social distancing and stringent  hygiene.  As a curfew is set & more people are self isolating and staying indoor to avoid the curve from increasing,  I am spending all my evenings in my four walls with more time for what I love doing most. Meanwhile as the curfew extends I have organised an online exhibition - details below:  We need something to keep our spirits positive during these uncertain times... Art of Diversity II a planned venue based exhibit that was to take place in March could not happen naturally so if you cannot

Still Recollecting.....Lord Eroll - Art of Diversity 2019...a group show to be remembered!...

It was once a  secret hideaway that many visit on a casual afternoon break from work or for a late early evening to relax, but now a go to place for breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner..... Lord Eroll Restaurant welcomed  some of my artworks for sale along with other 7 Artists ..... in what was a fascinating, colourful and exciting Art Exhibition..... in October 2019

Still Looking Back on the past Year!.....Art as Healing....

The past year brought with it a lot of changes and lessons too !...plus one turning point.... I realized the value of Life much more than I ever had..when my mother in law died in front of me....after battling illness for a long time.... Death is an inescapable truth that humans must all face!.... I have painted in the last year and it was during my Birds in Kenya series that her illness began to take a toll!...Since then, my art journey still continued and somehow Art has a way of healing too....below is what I came up with during the last year and after the sudden death of a close family member.... I realized more than ever what is inside of us never stops being there...I still went back to my brushes during and after that turning point....although it did take some time!......

Keeping it Real with the colours..

Its been a while....this last year and a half has been a different one to say the least!.....but I have been away from writing...….and more of painting...... During this time, I got married....and also moved into a new home, redecorated and started my own home garden!....  landscaping has always been a side passion. Its great weather in Kenya....all year round Sun... no seasons, great for the annuals... the flowers are blooming ! I have kept some perrenials that are also doing well.... shall share some photos of the garden soon..... So colour adds a burst of energy to a room... a spark of delight or even a calming or energetic feeling depending on which colours.... Getting to Know Taskin : from your assessments...of my artwork my interests... my subject choices.... Which colour do you think I like most? Why? ….. Ill give you some time to answer that! ….
