Last year I applied to be part of the World Citizen Artists......which is a family of like minded individuals spreading peace love and sharing their thought ideas art to better humanity and the world...This year I took part in the World Citizen Artist Awards Competition which aims go support two NGOs..Gua Africa and Safe Passage that are changing lives through education.
It was my honour to be part of the World Citizen Artists who regularly have art and music competitions globally.
This year my participation brought me amongst the finalist of the One for All World Citizen Artists Competition 2016.
As war and violence rage on in our communities, we must not forget the power that unity, purpose and education has on changing the lives of our future generation.
The competition was open to all musicians and artists from accross the world to create and submit artwork or music piece/performance based on the theme of 'HOPE'. Artists who entered the competition were encouraged to donate to the charities and all proceeds of which were directed towards the educational projects in Guatemala and South Sudan.
Guatemala has one of the high- est violent crime rates in Central America. In South Sudan, a descent into civil war after its independence in 2011, has left thousands dead and over 2 million, many of them children, displaced.
The money raised through this competition will support the charities and assist to empower the children in vulnerable poor living conditions and promote educational outlets for war children and war refugees and also children living in the slum areas of Guatemala to reach their full potential.
Ana Lucia Mi- jangos, Public Relations at Safe Passage stated to Artists that “Your art will be supporting and inspiring our more than 550 children and their families, $1 represents half a day of work in the garbage dump in Guatemala City”.
Kate Gumm, UK Coordinator at Gua Africa said that “Gua Africa educates former child soldiers and refugees from East and Central Africa, sending them to college and university in Kenya. $1 represents one week’s worth of bus travel to and from, for 1 of our student''.
