Refreshing the senses.....

For sometime now I had been exploring abstract designs ........ It has been said when we take time off what we usually paint or draw it sometimes invites new possibilities in exploring subjects and techniques we have never touched or applied. Often said to be a great stress reliever too, abstract work particularly in mixed media also opens a new window into working with new shapes, borders and lines. It seems like a great option when taking some time off painting landscapes to delve into inner feelings and experiences in a personal way... Here I have been using pencil, ink and combining it with digital art... Here are just some of my abstract designs done recently ........                                                                      Untangling ...

Thank You 2013 ... Welcome 2014 .......

2013  has flown by very fast.... The year has been interesting and eventful too...I ended the year in reflection of all the special moments : discovering new techniques and possibilities in drawing, opening of my new gift shop, getting sales through my gift shop, starting giclee prints selling on Fine Art Europe, art exhibitions in Kenya, exploring new avenues in arabic and african art, starting a new website and ofcourse painting, painting and more painting !!! It was a very fulfilling  2013 and I look forward to the new year !! :) May this year bring more unforgettable memories, special moments to share and better things to come.... I start the new year with 'still life' painting ...... Happy New Year to all of you ! :)

Bringing Colour to a Still life ....

My first painting for 2014 is a 'still life'. This week I have been working on a study of fruits. As I had promised in earlier posts of still life arrangements in colour, I have created a simple one here as a study of colour, tone, shadows, & light. I have found that trying subjects I have not worked on for awhile does help to reconnect with the fundamentals of composition as well as implement shadow work and the use of light, direction and perspective in a painting. In this piece I have tried to intentionally reduce the subject matter, simplify and avoid cluttering the arrangement so as to focus on the fundamentals.Still life drawing allows me to brush up on my methods for paintings and also sometimes where a new idea comes from for a future painting. I feel with still life drawings I  preparing myself for making a painting in the future. Below is an  illustration of the process for the still life, the first picture being the real life still life... ....You will ...
